Services and Amenities

Residents of GlenWood Park Retirement Village have a broad range of services and amenities to choose from that promote their physical, emotional and spiritual well being.

Meals

The fee in all levels of care includes three meals a day plus snacks. Independent living residents can come to the dining room in the main building for all three meals or take groceries from the dietary department back to their apartment or townhouse to do some of their own cooking if they wish. One delivery per day is provided to independent living apartments upon request and for an additional fee. Residents who prefer to do all of their own grocery shopping and cooking may also choose a food waiver and receive a reduction in their monthly charge. Menus are prepared under the guidance of a registered dietitian, and special diets are planned in accordance with physicians’ orders. GlenWood’s meal service is provided by Aladdin Food Management Services, Inc. of Wheeling, WV.

Housekeeping

The fee in all levels of care includes weekly housekeeping with more frequent attention provided if necessary. Residents in assisted living also receive full laundry service as part of their fee, and those in health care can receive the service for an additional charge.

Maintenance

Our maintenance staff is on duty seven days a week to take care of needs inside buildings and outdoors for residents in independent living, assisted living and healthcare.

Activities

Activity coordinators schedule a full calendar of events, both at the facility and in the surrounding region. Two vans are available to take residents on shopping trips, out to eat, to a play, a concert, or some other interesting destination in Virginia or West Virginia. Fishing enthusiasts will enjoy Glenwood Lake located adjacent to the retirement village, and nearby is a golf course along with a bowling alley, shops, restaurants, an airport and colleges.

Transportation

Scheduled transportation is provided with some restrictions. Certified nursing assistants and activities coordinators transport residents to physician appointments, shopping and special events.

Additional Amenities

Additional amenities available at GlenWood include a beauty salon/barber shop, chapel, library, Serenity Garden, sun room, closed circuit TV system, and beautiful grounds with views and walking paths. One of the area’s largest lakes joins GlenWood’s property. Nearby are golf courses along with bowling alleys, shops, restaurants, an airport and colleges.

Serenity Garden

GlenWood Park’s Serenity Garden was established in 2007 by the Auxiliary as a peaceful, attractive and easily-accessible haven for residents, staff and visitors to enjoy. A curved brick sidewalk wraps around colorful landscaping and leads to a gazebo where shaded seating is provided. Additional benches offer sunny spots for guests to read or visit with friends. Two fountains add to the garden's serene atmosphere.

The sidewalk is made up of bricks engraved with the names of loved ones honored or remembered in this special site, or with words and artwork that commemorate special occasions in people’s lives. The bricks are sold by the Auxiliary for $75 each.

For more information about ordering a brick for the sidewalk in the Serenity Garden, contact Susan Belcher at 304-425-8128.

Pet Friendly

GlenWood Park Retirement Village welcomes pets into our community. Not only does owning a pet ease the transition of moving into a new community, it has been associated with lower blood pressure, lower blood triglyceride levels, increased activity and socialization, and even increased length of survival following a heart attack, according to a story found on essortment.com.

When most people think of house pets, they automatically think of dogs and cats, but at GlenWood Park aviaries have taken center stage. You can’t help but stop for a minute to watch the antics of these precious birds and hear them sing. We have two aviaries that our visitors and residents enjoy.

If you are hesitant about moving into assisted or independent living at GlenWood for fear of having to leave your pet behind, rest assured that your beloved companion will be welcome here. Residents are responsible for their pets in every way, and a plan must be in place if something was to happen and they could no longer care for them.

Please contact our admissions coordinator, Becky Kidwell, at 304-425-8128 for more details.
